Plant Guide for Pet Owners

Our furry friends play an important role in our lives, keeping them safe is important. Pets love the outdoors, but even our own carefully-curated gardens can pose a danger to our pets. Knowing which plants are toxic to our pets ensures that our indoor and outdoor spaces can be safely enjoyed by the whole family.
What to know
While many plants can cause gastrointestinal upset for your pets, there are toxic plants that pose much more serious risks to your pets if consumed. Toxic plants can cause intense vomiting and organ damage and can even affect the function of the kidneys and heart.
What to do
Not all parts of the plant may be toxic, for example, leaves of a plant may not bother your pet if ingested, but the bulb of the plant may be highly toxic. It’s best to keep pets away from toxic plants altogether to ensure their safety.

This is not an exhaustive list and there are other plants that may cause adverse reactions when ingested by pets. Consult with your vet, or call a pet poison helpline, if your dog or cat ingested a plant and you’re not sure whether or not it’s safe.
